Aiming to put brakes on the Fish Hill speedsters

A BOLD bid to tackle speeding and anti-social driving on the A44 at Fish Hill has been launched by West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner and a local councillor.

John Campion and Coun Liz Eyre have teamed up after residents raised concerns around noise, speeding and racing on the hill climb, often from motorcyclists or drivers of high-performance cars.

Working with West Mercia Police and other partners, a clear plan will be set out, focusing on prevention and enforcement activity as well as community reassurance, to ensure this road is safer for all.

Mr Campion said: “The West Mercia Local Policing Charter includes a commitment to tackle issues which impact residents and I have reassurance from the Local Policing Commander that this is a focus for them too.”

Coun Eyre said: “I have long championed the concerns of my residents concerning the impact of anti-social behaviours in the vicinity of Fish Hill.

“We must not point the finger at every driver or biker but something must be done at those that significantly impact the lives of others. Whilst I know that focus has been given by the police and the county council to this issue in the past, it has not been sustainable or ultimately successful in reducing the impact on local residents.

“I have raised the matter with the county council urging them to play their part in a sustainable way forward.

“The Commissioner and I are committed to ensuring local partners work together to address the concerns of the public, reducing the impact on them and ensuring they are well informed of the action that is being taken,” she added.
