Abbey seeks public opinions

A MAJOR consultation has begun on how Pershore Abbey and St Andrew’s Centre can further support the local community.

As custodians of both buildings the team at Pershore Abbey is keen to ensure that they are well taken care of and continue to meet local community needs. Local residents are asked to share their thoughts on St Andrews’s and Pershore Abbey to help develop significant long-term plans.

The first consultation focuses on St Andrew’s – the local community is invited to share their thoughts via on online survey. St Andrew’s is a Grade II* building and well used by a number of different groups. Parts of the building date from 1190 and the building is a vital part of the town’s history.

Rev Claire Lording, Priest in Charge at Pershore Abbey has encouraged residents to share their views.

“St Andrew’s Centre plays an important role in community life and we want to ensure the building continues to meet local needs. With any historic building there are always elements of repair and maintenance that need undertaking but we want to look beyond that to ensure that our future plans capture the changing needs of our community.”

“The current pandemic,” she adds, “has highlighted how important community spaces are in enabling communities to respond to local needs – for example, the foodbank based at St. Andrew’s has operated throughout. We want to ensure that the building continues to provide a welcoming space for all”.
