Abbey Park tree sculpture brings a taste of royalty

WANNABE leaders can get a taste of royalty with a new artwork in Evesham’s Abbey Park.

A special throne has been created out of the remains of a dead beech tree that had to be cut down because surveys showed it was diseased and decaying.

Wychavon asked wood sculpture specialist Joffrey Watson – also known as The Chainsaw Bloke – to create the artwork as a tribute to the town’s links to The Battle of Evesham. The throne can be found near to the children’s play area.

Eight new trees have been planted in the park this winter to replace the beech tree.

Coun Emma Stokes, Executive Board Member for Resident and Customer Service, said: “This is a wonderful piece of artwork which will make a great photo opportunity for people to pose with against the backdrop of our beautiful Abbey Park.

“We hate to cut down any tree but the fact we have been able to turn it into something unique for people to enjoy, and plant new trees in its place, is fantastic.”
