A TREE with hand-painted Easter eggs has taken pride of place at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital after a county couple raised more than £800 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Ali and Paul Chester, directors of Worcester-based company The Christmas Decorators, raised the cash to say thank you to staff who looked after their son and supported them when he was born two months early last May.
The pair invited local companies to help them raise money for NICU by sponsoring an Easter egg, individually hand painted by the Christmas Decorators with their branding and logos, to hang on the tree.
More than 40 fellow local companies sponsored an Easter egg with the aim of bringing hope and support to families with premature babies and the unique challenges they face.
The unit is the chosen charity for 2019 for The Christmas Decorators and mum Ali said: “This time last year, we as a family were about to experience terrifying times when our son was born two months premature.
“During this distressing time, the staff on the unit were extremely supportive and nurturing of us while looking after our son Charlie.”
“We have lots of exciting fund-raising events planned and have started with a really successful one with our Easter tree campaign,” she said.
Dad Paul will be taking to the skies in August to raise more money for the unit to ensure the care of premature or poorly babies within Worcestershire continues to a high standard.
“Where resources are continually being stretched within the NHS, any additional fund-raising will be greatly received to support the lifesaving work they carry out,” Ali added.
