VETERANS from the armed forces were joined by the Mayor of Evesham and the town’s MP to commemorate VJ Day, the end of the Second World War.
The service last Thursday (August 15) marked Victory over Japan, the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in the conflict which in effect brought the war to an end.
Evesham’s MP Nigel Huddelston, Coun Frances Smith, chairman of Wychavon District Council and Mayor of Evesham Coun Mark Goodge joined veterans from three armed forces as well as presently serving members outside of the Almonry.
The parade was officiated over by Lt Col (Rtd) Mark Jackson OBE, president of the Worcester branch of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association.
Rev Andy Green, chaplain to the Evesham branch of the Royal British Legion conducted the service while Sue Sollis MBE played the Last Post and Reveille.
