HEAVY horses, craft workers, live music and guided walks are amongst the highlights of the 33rd Tiddesley Wood Open Day this year.

The popular annual event is run by volunteers of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust at their woodland nature reserve on the outskirts of Pershore and the woodland will be carpeted with bluebells so as well as joining in with the activities, visitors can also take in the natural wonders of the wood.

Harry Green, chairman of the volunteer group who organise the event said: “It’s a great day out for young and old – enjoying live music in the woodland glade, shopping from local craftspeople and taking in the natural beauty of this ancient woodland.”

“We’re also delighted to be joined by staff from Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service who will be showcasing some of the information they’re discovering as part of the Market Gardening Heritage project.

“This really important project is focussing on sheds, known as hovels, that each market gardener constructed on their own patch; the project is recording the standing remains and gathering information about this important part of the Vale’s history,” he added.

Visitors to the event will also see heavy horse demonstrations in the adjacent orchard owned by Vale Landscape Heritage Trust. There will also be live music, artists demonstrating and selling their work, weavers, woodworkers and homemade food.

The event takes place between 10am and 5pm on Sunday, May 5 and costs £3 for adults and £1 for children.
