EVESHAM’s new water play area has been opened as part of a £330,000 plan to replace Wychavon District Council’s ageing water play areas.

Contractor The Splash joined with members of Wychavon’s parks team last Thursday (April 27) to turn on the new feature in Abbey Park.

The water play area includes hydro blast jets, a water spider, a spray canon, an archway with jets and a water curtain.

There are also tipper buckets, an accessible wavy bridge and new seating amongst other things. It will be open daily from 10am to 6pm until sometime in September.

The £330,000 project is part of a wider replacement plan for Wychavon’s ageing water play areas which are coming to the end of their natural life.

Subject to funding approval, it is hoped the water play area in Abbey Park in Pershore will be replaced by summer 2024 and the water play in Lido Park in Droitwich Spa by summer 2025.

Jon Hulbert, Wychavon’s Senior Parks and Greenspace Officer, said: “We’re delighted to be able to turn on Evesham’s new water play area and hope people will enjoy using this new and improved facility. All we need now is the weather!”

The current water play areas in Abbey Park in Pershore and Lido Park in Droitwich will be switched on in May, but the exact dates are still to be confirmed.
