ARTS COUNCIL England has plunged more than £1million into Worcestershire to back art, culture and creativity for more people in more places across the country

In total, three organisations in Worcestershire will receive a share of £363,000 each year ensuring more people in more places can find fantastic, fulfilling art and culture on their doorsteps.

Collar and TIE – based at the University of Worcester – is one of the groups to receive cash. C&T works with teachers and students at schools across the county, using digital technology and theatre to inspire young people to think creatively.

Dancefest which creates opportunities for people to take part in contemporary dance, through a programme of classes, workshops, school and community projects, including outdoor performances on high streets, at stately homes and in public spaces across the region, has also been boosted.

Vamos Theate has been honoured – their productions deal with strong social themes and are often created with significant input from community groups. Its educational programme takes place in schools, care homes, with NHS staff, teachers, actors, carers, social workers, the deaf community and business leaders.

Peter Knott, area director of Arts Council England said: “The Midlands already boasts a vibrant cultural scene with an international reputation for excellence and we look forward to supporting more opportunities for even more communities across the region to experience creativity on their doorsteps.”
