AN EXCITING night of 12th century music will be performed at Pershore Abbey to help raise awareness of the work carried out by Friends of Pershore Hospital.

The concert, to be held on Saturday, May 28 from 7.30pm, will see Aphelion, made up of composer-pianist Chris Long and singer Paula Evans; perform ‘Towards the Within’- a night of vocal and instrumental music from the 12th century.

As well as Chris and Paula, performers include vocal ensembles Voice7 and Excelsa Voices, cellist Michael Whiteway, and a range of other instrumentalists.

The concert is being held to raise awareness of the work of the Friends of Pershore Hospital who help support local medical services thanks to the generosity of the group’s members and the support of Pershore residents.

Mrs Freeman, Chairman of the Friends, said: “We are really looking forward to this event and are very grateful to Paula and Chris for making it happen.

“The work of the Friends is no less important now than it was at the turn of the 19th Century – we all know how the NHS struggles to find the funds to deliver its services and that is where we come in.

“Through the efforts of our members and the generosity of local people we are able to supplement local medical services where a shortfall occurs or where an improvement is possible.

“Our reasons for sponsoring this Concert are to let people know what we do and to invite them to become Friends of Pershore Hospital.”

Tickets cost £10 and are available from Blue on Broad Street and from the Town Hall or via www.vocalhigh.weebly.com/towards-the-within.html.
