A TEENAGER who began camping in his back garden to raise money for a local hospice has revealed he’s finally going back indoors after three years of sleeping under the stars.
Max Woosey, 13, from Braunton in Devon started his outdoor adventure on March 29, 2020 – at the height of the first Covid lockdown – following the death of a close friend.
Rick Abbott gave Max a tent, and told him to ‘go have an adventure’ so Max, then 10-years-old, retreated into his back garden to raise money for the North Devon Hospital which cared for Rick.
Dubbed ‘The Boy in the Tent’, he’s slept under canvas ever since – but will finally go back to his bedroom at the end of March, he told his 37,000 followers on Twitter this week.
Max is marking his amazing adventure – which has raised nearly £610,000 for charity via his JustGiving page – with, you guessed it, a camping festival.
The teenager, who has braved freezing temperatures in the middle of winter, and last year, the howling winds of Storm Eunice and Storm Francis, said he had ‘mixed emotions’ about returning to a bricks and mortar bedroom.
It’s a funny feeling that after nearly 3 years tomorrow marks the start of my last month under canvas. Mixed emotions pic.twitter.com/07UnCdRsBH
