A BEST-SELLING author and survivor of the 1996 Everest storm is getting set to speak at The Regal.

Vale audiences will have a unique opportunity to hear from film-maker, best-selling author and survivor of the Great Storm of 1996, Matt Dickinson on Sunday, October 4.

Matt will take to the stage following the 7.30pm showing of the new biographical disaster drama and adventure thriller film, Everest.

The film, starring Academy Award nominees, Jake Gyllenhaal and Keira Knightley, amongst a host of other big names including Jason Clarke and Josh Brolin, is based on the real-life 1996 mountaineering disaster in which eight mountaineers died trying to reach the summit.

Matt Dickinson, a family friend of the Wipers (owners of The Regal) was climbing Everest at the time and filming with actor, Brian Blessed.

He is one of only a handful of summiteers to have survived the storm and he wrote a best-selling book, The Death Zone, about his experience.

His book is an acclaimed account of the events described in the film, Everest, and his account will bring the film into context for audiences.

Customers can also enjoy an Everest exhibition in the cinema’s circle bar with a drink before the film.

A set of stunning photographs taken on Everest will also be auctioned off after the film.

Tickets are on sale at the standard price at The Regal’s website: www.theregal.ac or from the box office on 01386 421007
