Spooktacular goings on at Alton Towers Scarefest

VISITING your favourite theme park always guarantees a day packed full of excitement, adrenaline and fun.

But as Halloween activities come into full force today (Friday), Alton Towers Resort’s Scarefest event is offering thrill-seekers a spooktacular twist.

The Staffordshire park has been transformed into everything eerie, with pumpkins lacing the pathways, spine-tingling music playing in the background and buckets of mist to create a chilling atmosphere.

Famous rides such as Oblivion, The Smiler, Nemesis, Rita and Thirteen always produce enough screams to make your ears ring, but with extended hours until 9pm, screams of a different sort were lurking in the dark.

As the sun set on a day packed full of rollercoasters, rapids, log flumes and more, the dark side of the park really came alive – or died so to speak.

Riding your favourite rollercoaster into the black of the night was enough to send a chill down the bravest thrill-seekers spine.

But add in zombies, crazy doctors and sickening tales and you have the perfect Halloween ingredients.

The award-winning Sanctuary maze took you on a terrifying trip through a medical facility which links with the history of the disorientating ride The Smiler, while the Terror of the Towers uncovered horrifying secrets after investigating dark goings-on.

New for this year includes Scary Tales where usual stories take a disturbing twist, while the Zombies Scare Zone tests your fear factor to the limit as the undead roamed a maze.

You have one way out – a road where vehicles have been hauntingly abandoned and along the route you will come face-to-face with terrifying zombies who will not want you to leave.

Although the park’s extended hours took a blood-curdling twist, the entire day still offered unlimited family fun which especially appealed to younger children.

Patch’s Trick-or-Treaty Party got youngsters and their parents singing and dancing, while the Brilliant Bug Barn saw plenty of interesting creepy crawlies to meet.

There was also the chance to learn how to spook, and meet the famous freaky characters who got the children hyped up .

Scarefest runs up until Sunday (November 2) and the park will remain open until 9pm for those who dare to ride in the dark.
