Olympian Eddie leaps into town

Evesham Editorial 6th Nov, 2019   0

AN EVENING with Britain’s first Olympic ski jumper, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards is on offer at Pershore Number 8 Community Arts Centre.

The much-loved Olympian will take to the stage next Friday (November 15) from 7.30pm to take audiences behind the scenes of his career.

Eddie was ranked 55th in the world which qualified him as the only GB applicant for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

With the UK firmly backing the plasterer from Gloucestershire, the ski jumper took to the slopes followed by a whirlwind of international attention. He competed in the 70m and 90m jump events, but unfortunately came last in both events.

A true example of a heroic failure, Eddie’s perseverance and achievement, without any funding is a true cause for admiration.

Audiences are invited to join Eddie to learn how this particular Eagle landed on his feet in the end, even if it wasn’t in quite the same style as his sporting rivals.
