Masterpiece of ballet beamed into The Regal

Evesham Editorial 5th Apr, 2018   0

A ENGLISH National Ballet masterpiece will be beamed into The Regal in Evesham in two shows later this spring.

Hailed as ‘a masterpiece of 21st century dance’, Akram Khan’s Giselle comes to cinemas for the first time with artistic director Tamara Rojo dancing the role of Giselle, one of a community of migrant workers cast out of their jobs in a condemned garment factory.

This beautiful and intelligent remaking of the beloved classic is showing on the big screen in Evesham’s art deco cinema on Wednesday, April 25 and Tuesday, May 1 and tickets are booking now.

Filmed live at the Liverpool Empire in October 2017, Akram Khan’s Giselle is directed for the screen by Ross McGibbon.

The classic story of love, betrayal and redemption has been reimagined in this stunning new version with sets and costumes by Academy Award winning designer Tim Yip and an ominous and gothic adaptation of Adolphe Adam’s original score by composer Vincenzo Lamagna and performed by English National Ballet Philharmonic.

The Regal’s Laurence Wiper, said; “Our opera and ballet screenings from The Royal Opera House have been very popular and we are pleased that we are now able to bring an even greater range of performances to The Regal from the English National Ballet, and also a broadcast of Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella, which includes a live Q&A with Matthew Bourne himself, on Tuesday, May 15.”

Guests can enjoy a bottle of wine and a delicious sharing platter with the performances, which can be ordered with tickets via The Regal’s box office line on 01386 421007.

Tickets for both shows of Giselle as well as Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella can also be purchased online at www.theregal.ac
