Get ready, Evesham – the much-loved Evesham Scarecrow Festival is back for 2025, and it’s set to be bigger, better, and quirkier than ever! Hosted at Hampton Ferry on Saturday, August 16, this year’s event promises a full day of creativity, live entertainment, family fun, and the ever-popular Rotary in the Vale Duck Race.
At the heart of the festival is the chance for young and old to unleash their imagination and take part in the King of the Crows Scarecrow Competition. Whether you’ve never built a scarecrow before or you’re a seasoned straw artist, this is your chance to shine.
From 10am to 2pm, the Scarecrow Workshop will be open for all budding creators. For just £5, you’ll receive basic materials and expert guidance from friendly helpers who can offer tips and encouragement.
All you need to bring is your imagination and any extra accessories to make your scarecrow truly unique. If you’d prefer to work from home, you can still join in. Simply bring your completed scarecrow to the festival for free competition entry. Voting for the best scarecrow opens at 1.30pm and closes at 4pm, with the winners crowned later in the day.
But the scarecrows aren’t the only stars of the show. This year’s festival also coincides with the grand finale of the Evesham Duck Hunt, which began on July 16, when 24 large, beautifully decorated ducks will be hidden around Evesham.
Armed with a duck hunt card (available from participating businesses or online), participants can explore the town, collect stamps, and uncover a secret message.
Completed cards should be brought to the Duck Race tent at Hampton Ferry on festival day to claim a prize and enter the draw for the coveted Duck Hunter Trophy.
Then, around 4.15pm it’s time for the Rotary Duck Race itself. Watch in delight as the large decorative ducks and their smaller racing cousins speed down the River Avon towards victory.
If you want to join the race, you can purchase your own racing duck online or at Hampton Ferry in advance – and be in with a chance of winning glory on the water.
Music lovers are in for a treat too. The festival’s live music line-up includes Keith and Kev, performing hits from the 1950s to the present day, talented young local rock band The Lizzards and finally Amicus is another exciting addition to the bill.
The popular Firefly face painting duo will also be on hand to add some colourful magic to the day.
For the little ones, a beautifully restored 1950s vintage wooden rollercoaster will provide thrills without the need for electricity as it’s fully powered by gravity. Designed for children up to the age of nine, the ride is sure to be a hit.
Families can also enjoy Simply Bounce inflatables, stalls, games, and the ever-popular Hampton Ferry Cider Festival for the grown-ups.
This year, the festival is proud to support St Richard’s Hospice as its chosen charity. The community spirit runs deep, and every scarecrow, duck, and smile will help raise vital funds for this important cause.
Robert Raphael, proprietor of Hampton Ferry, said: “The Evesham Scarecrow Festival is about bringing people together to have fun, be creative, and celebrate our community.
“Whether you’re building a scarecrow, hunting ducks, or simply enjoying the music and attractions, there’s something for everyone. We can’t wait to see the amazing creations and welcome everyone down to Hampton Ferry.”
So mark your calendars for Saturday, August 16 and prepare for a day of laughter, competition, and celebration by the riverside. With free entry for spectators and so much to see and do, the
Evesham Scarecrow Festival is the perfect summer outing for families, friends, and anyone who enjoys a good old-fashioned bit of fun.
