THE ROYAL Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet will be beamed live from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to The Regal Cinema later this month.

Since the venue re-opened its doors in January 2012, it has been dedicated to offering the local community not only the latest box office movies, but also a range of live events, live sports and live theatre broadcasts.

Following a keen interest in the ballets and operas from customers, tickets are now on sale for the live cinema season, which kicks off with the greatest love story of all, a tragic tale of star-crossed lovers in Kenneth MacMillan’s ground-breaking ballet, Romeo and Juliet.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the masterpiece will be beamed live on Tuesday, September 22 at 7.15pm and Sunday, September 27 at 2pm.

The love-struck Romeo will be danced by Australian Principal, Steven McRae, and his beautiful Juliet by American Principle, Sarah Lamb, who starred as Alice in the December 2014 screening of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Rich in the swaggering colour and period costume of Verona street life, the ballet has magnificent designs by Nicholas Georgiadis and a gripping score by Sergey Prokofiev.

With sword fighting, romance and heartbreak, the drama takes the audience from the sumptuous ballroom of the Capulets, to the sensational balcony pas de deux and the stark tomb of the final doomed meeting of the lovers!

Customers can also book now for Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, which tells the tale of how a young girl’s enchanted present leads her on a wonderful adventure danced to Tchaikovsky’s glittering score.

The Nutcracker is showing on Wednesday, December 16 and in the New Year, Ashton’s celebration of virtuoso dance creates an elegant counterpoint to his charming, light-hearted romance in Rhapsody/The Two Pigeons, showing on Tuesday, January 26

For opera fans, revolution is in the air in David McVicar’s production of Mozart’s glorious comic opera, Le Nozze Di Figaro, showing on Monday, October 5.

Tickets for all productions are priced at £20 for adults and £15 for concessions and are available from The Regal’s website www.theregal.ac or via their box office line on 01386 421 007.
