10 Summer Outfit Ideas for Women

Correspondent 19th Aug, 2022   0

Summer trends are so much fun! You’ve shed your winter and springtime layers, the weather has finally begun to even out enough that wearing straps without a jacket isn’t taking your life into your hands, and the chances of sudden (and disastrous, if you’re wearing white!) rainstorms are drastically reduced. There are pops of colour in all the designer showcases, daring cutouts are appearing on every dancefloor, and it’s time to dig last season’s sandals and open-toe heels out of the back of your closet or, better yet, treat yourself to a new pair of Dune London boots!

Summer is a time to try new trends and see if they work for you. From the outlandish to the artistic to the comfortable and practical, some trends just work for you and others don’t…but if you never try, you’ll never know, right? We’ve got a list of the top ten SS22/23 summer outfit trends that you’ll want to put on your body. Try a few of these on for size!

Teeny Weeny Minis

Twiggy did all the hard work for us back in the sixties when the first minis (and boy, were they MINI) debuted on the runway and in all good fashion magazines. This summer, the tinier the mini, the more a woman wants to wear it! The thing with wearing one very revealing item, like a micro mini, is that our approach to the rest of the outfit should be “more is more”. Make the mini the focus of the outfit and pair it with knee-high, kitten heel boots and an oversized blazer for date night. Match it with a pair of loafers or sneakers, a tank and an oversized button-down shirt for a casual day out.

Y2Krazy

Yes, the 2000s are back once more. While there were some trends from the 2000s that we loved, like butterfly tops, asymmetrical skirts and tiny handbags, we suggest that you tone down the initial intensity of a 2000s outfit by mixing one item into your existing wardrobe.

Metallics

Metallics usually dwell in the realms of business casual, date night or wedding guest attire. What we love is that metallics are now appearing in surprising places: a pleated midi skirt, a full suit, a bikini top. Play up that unexpected aspect of the trend and take the chance to do something a little unusual.

Underwear on the Outside

Underwear as outerwear, more specifically bras as tops, has been trending for the last two summers. With the recent heatwave, it’s hardly surprising that fashion fans have taken to wearing as little as humanly possible, but the rule with tiny tops is the same as the rule with tiny skirts: more is more everywhere else. An excellent option for when the heat is just too much is to pair your bra top with a pair of baggy Bermuda shirts or, if it’s not sweltering, a pair of boyfriend jeans or trousers.

Hyper Feminine

Florals, lace, floaty sheer fabrics, femme colours: if you’ve got it, we want it. Hyper feminine looks tend to look overly dressy if you wear them from head to toe, so it’s always a good idea to juxtapose, say, a super femme dress with a pair of Adidas sneakers or chunky boots. This adds a little contrast and interest to the look instead of being very girly from head to toe.

Netting

It is officially acceptable to wear what might previously have been considered a fishing net out to a party! Nets are the new knits, and fashionistas are embracing the barely-there aspect of the trend. Tops, full dresses, pants, skirts: we’ll take them. Opt for a cute bra top and high-waisted undies or even a bodysuit underneath for a bit of contrast.

Vibrant Colour

Winter is over, the skies are no longer slate grey all day, every day, and we are ready for fun, vibrant colour. The only rules here are what you like and don’t like. Go for power clashing, a muted palette, different shades of the same colour or even a Pantone perfect matching suit.

Platform Mary Jane Heels

Cast your mind all the way back to 1995 when Clueless came out, and you’ll have the perfect inspiration board. Think Steve Madden’s launch collection but on steroids and in every colour under the rainbow. If you want to tone the look down a little, pair the heels with a slouchy, extra long pair of pants and have them peep out a tiny bit at the toe. Show them off in a mini or maxi dress.

Sheer

What our grandmothers would have considered being less than a petticoat is now a dress that you can wear out to the club. The sheer trend is not going anywhere any time soon.

Washed Denim

Once again, we harken back to the early 2000s when denim just wasn’t good enough unless it was acid to stonewash. Thankfully the washes are a little more refined these days, and the effect makes your denim look comfortably worn in. Denim is an absolute necessity, and you can style it so many ways- the only limit is your comfort.

These are the top outfit trends for Summer 22/23. Have you tried any yet?
