There’s something utterly captivating about Britain’s medieval market towns, and Evesham is the epitome of this old-world charm. Tucked neatly in the Vale with the River Avon winding its way through the heart of the town, Evesham truly embodies the cliche of offering something for everyone.
We want to show off the best of Evesham, so we’ve collated a list of the very best things to do here, from standout activities to hidden gems. You might’ve just moved into the area or maybe you’re a lifelong resident. Whatever your connection to the town, we bet there’s some Evesham magic here that you’re still yet to uncover. So, let’s take a look at our 10 best things to do in Evesham!
1. Wander Through Abbey Park
Abbey Park is the jewel in the centre of Evesham’s crown. It’s hard to imagine coming here without spending at least an hour wandering by the river bank and admiring the weeping willows. You could stop and feed the ducks or find the perfect bench to watch the world go by. Make sure you check out the iconic tree throne carved entirely by chainsaw, too!
2. Visit the Almonry Museum
There aren’t many towns the size of Evesham that can boast their own museum, but not every town has so much history to share. Housed in a beautiful 14th-century building, Almonry Museum tells the story of Evesham’s fascinating past, from its days as a major abbey town to its role in the Battle of Evesham in 1265. The exhibits are well laid out and regularly updated, and even locals will learn a thing or two they never knew about their hometown.
3. Take a Riverside Walk Along the Avon
There’s nothing quite like an early morning or sunset walk along the River Avon. Starting from Abbey Park, you can follow the path along the river towards Hampton Ferry. It’s peaceful, scenic, and if you time it right, you might even see one of the swans gliding gracefully across the water. If you fancy a pint afterwards, The Ferry pub is our top spot to rest your legs and soak in the views.
4. Explore the Battle of Evesham Trail
Evesham played a pivotal role in English history, and the Battle of Evesham Trail brings that history to life. Marked with informative boards, the trail guides you through key battle sites and explains the significance of Simon de Montfort’s dramatic defeat in 1265. If you’re around in August, the annual re-enactment of the battle is a must-see, with knights in full armour, jousting, and medieval markets.
5. Shop Local at the Evesham Charter Market
Evesham Charter Market is the pride of the town, and for good reason. Held every Saturday, the market is a great place to pick up fresh local produce and handmade crafts. You’ll find a rotating cast of stalls as well as weekly favourites where you could snag yourself a bargain if you’re lucky. Plus, supporting local traders helps keep the town’s independent spirit alive.
6. Discover The Valley Shopping Village
Just outside the town, The Valley Shopping Village is the perfect place to spend rainy weekend afternoons. You’ll find outlet shopping at brands like Fatface and Cotton Traders, as well as plenty of dining options and family-friendly entertainment. There’s even a garden centre for green-fingered visitors. The views from the car park alone are worth the visit (we bet you didn’t expect to read that!), with sweeping landscapes of the Vale of Evesham stretching out before you.
7. Take a Boat Trip on the Avon
If you’ve not already noticed, the river kind of takes centre stage on our list. Hop on a boat for a trip down the River Avon and ease along with the gentle pace of the river. It’s also a great way to spot local wildlife like beavers, kingfishers, and water voles. You can hire a boat from Evesham Marina or, if you’re feeling adventurous, even try paddle boarding on a calm day.
8. Fly in Style With a Private Jet Experience
If you’re looking to add a touch of luxury to your travels, you could hire a private jet charter. The nearest airports for private flights are Gloucestershire Airport (GLO) and Birmingham Airport (BHX), both offering excellent facilities for chartered planes. It’s on everyone’s bucket list, and with views of the stunning Vale of Evesham beneath you, there’s no better place to get it ticked off.
9. Attend a Show at Evesham Arts Centre
For centuries, arts have been an integral part of the town, and Evesham Arts Centre provides a dedicated space for local artists to show off their skills, whilst also offering a hub for people to come together and socialise. You’ll find everything from comedy nights to indie film screenings here, so be sure to check out the programme of events before heading down.
10. Explore Bredon Hill
Just a 25-minute drive from the centre of town, you’ll find some of the region’s most beautiful and rewarding walks at Bredon Hill. The climb isn’t too strenuous, and at the top, you’ll enjoy spectacular views stretching right across the Cotswolds with breathtaking views. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some Exmoor ponies grazing in the fields nearby.
Endless Fun in Evesham
Evesham is a town that never fails to surprise, with a list as long as your arm of fun activities to do in all weather and seasons. Spend wet weekends at the Arts Centre or The Valley Shopping Village or bask in summer sunshine in Abbey Park and along the River Avon. We love Evesham and feel so proud to share our little slice of paradise with the world.
