Party-goer fined for having no valid MOT

A MAN who drove his car to a party in Evesham without insurance or a valid MOT certificate has been handed six penalty points.

Piotr Bojanowski took his Volkswagen Sharan from Malvern to the Vale on October 25, despite being told by a garage five days earlier it had failed an MOT test.

The 32-year-old, of Malvern, was given ten days to get it fixed, but didn’t realise he could only use it for that purpose so decided to drive on the night, Worcester Magistrates Court heard last Friday (November 14).

Police were alerted to the vehicle by paramedics who had seen it mount a roundabout and damage road signs on the A44 in Pinvin.

Officers arrived but were told Bojanowski was the passenger in the car. He later admitted in interview he was drunk at the party and somebody else drove the vehicle and caused the accident, the court was also told.

Checks were done on the Volkswagen and there was found to be no insurance and no MOT certificate.

Bojanowski, defending himself, said: “I would like to sincerely apologise for this incident. I can’t remember if I let my friend drive or not.”

As well as receiving the points on his licence, the defendant was fined £250 for having no insurance and a £50 fine for the MOT offence.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury said: “You have lost out by letting this friend drive the car, you have only got yourself to blame.

“It is a serious matter to drive or allow someone else to drive a motor vehicle without insurance.”

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £25.
