Great turnout for ‘Xtreme’ contest

Evesham Editorial 9th Oct, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A POPULAR Evesham gym played host to a top national fitness competition and opened its doors to fitness fanatics from across the county

Staff at Phoenix Fitness Solutions at Unit 2 on St Richards Road even scooped success in categories of the X-Training ‘Phoenix Xtreme’ competition.

Competitors from around the country enter the competition which is held six times a year at venues around the UK.

Gym manager Jason Harvey won the Senior Men’s Intermediate category while Keith Pockett finished third in the Men’s Advanced Masters category.

But the undoubted highlight of the day was the performance of Gwen Fennell, the leading female in X-Training nationally, until she suffered a collapsed lung in June.

Despite fears she would be out of action until December, Gwen returned to competition at Phoenix Xtreme and finished second in the Female Advanced category and first in the Masters placings.

Jason told the Observer: “We had a great turnout of spectators, non members as well as members of whom most were unaware of X-Training or what it entailed and also the variety in ability and fitness levels that take part.

“Everyone we spoke to was interested in the sport and said that they would like to give it a go, a lot of people thought that it was just the elite who took part but this is not the case.

“We are following the success of the Phoenix Xtreme by setting up X-Training classes so that we can get more people involved and giving it a go.

“There lots of interest already and it will be great to see new faces hopefully taking part in future competitions.” he added.
