EVESHAM began 2016 in fine style as they defeated visitors Cannock 43-8 in the third round of the Midlands Senior Vase on Saturday.
It was not always pretty as conditions were miserable and sodden ground and a swirling wind prevailed, but both teams were keen to play in the attempt to run off their Christmas indulgences.
Cannock arrived with a huge pack and with the intent to play a tight, forward-orientated game.
After tense and attritional early exchanges Evesham started to find and exploit the spaces in the visiting defence and, despite the Cannock scrum being rather dominant, the ball skills and support play of the home side proved too much to handle.
An eight try to one haul allowed Evesham to progress through to the next round as comfortable victors.
Try-scorers for Evesham included Wilf Watson (2), Joe Cafearo, Sam Huckvale, Zak Bailey, Andrew McGrann and James Roberts.
Third placed Evesham return to Midlands Three West (South) action on Saturday when they entertain Cheltenham North.
