Tributes as Academy star Mitch forced to retire

THREE Pears Warriors Academy tighthead prop Mitch Reeve has decided to retire from rugby at the age of 20 on medical advice.

Reeve suffered a serious shoulder injury in a training match against Bristol Bears in the spring and has now been advised by specialists to retire.

“Everyone really feels for Mitch having to retire from professional rugby at such a young age,” said Warriors Academy Manager Mike Hall.

“We have explored all the avenues we could, taking onboard several specialist opinions, before Mitch, reluctantly, came to this decision.

“Warriors have a life-after-rugby development programme run by our Education Officer, Lynette Cutting, which ensures all players have the opportunity to plan their future after playing and gain qualifications in their chosen field.

“Mitch worked hard at school and so has the grades he needs to get into Newcastle University.

“He is an example to all young players of how quickly the game be taken away from you at any age which demonstrates the importance of the Warriors education and personal development programme alongside rugby.

“Mitch knows that he will always be assured of a warm welcome back at Sixways. He has made a lot of friends for life here and we wish him well for a successful future away from rugby.

Reeve, the son of former Coventry and Birmingham & Solihull prop Max, joined the Senior Academy at Sixways in the summer of 2020 having impressed helping Warriors to third place in the 2019/20 Premiership Rugby Under-18s Academy League.

He played his formative rugby for Solihull School and Silhillians and played in a series of England Under-20s trials last season including a guest appearance for a London Irish Development XV against England Under-20s in March so that the national selectors could assess him against the starting England front row.
