World-renowned orchestra set to take stage in Pershore

Evesham Editorial 22nd Jun, 2024   0

ONE of the UK’s finest dance bands will be gracing the stage in Pershore to perform its renditions of timeless 1920s and 1930s classics.

Pasadena Roof Orchestra will take to the Number 8 Arts Centre stage from 7.30pm on Saturday, July 13.

The concert will feature lovingly recreated orchestrations of melodies from the Great American Songbook composers such as Irving Berlin and George Gershwin.

Audiences will also be treated to hot tunes from the likes of Duke Ellington and Fletcher Henderson plus classic British dance band arrangements from Ray Noble and Lew Stone.

The evening will be hosted with humour by vocalist and band leader Duncan Galloway.

The Pasadena Roof Orchestra will be celebrating 55 years of touring. Mr. Armstrong was landing on the moon, The Beatles were breaking up, and Mr. John Arthy discovered a treasure trove of original music arrangements in an attic in Manchester and Pasadena Roof Orchestra was born.

The Pasadena Roof Orchestra became a household name in the 70s with appearances on major TV channels and tours throughout the UK and Europe. It has subsequently appeared around the world, from Berlin to Hong Kong, via Helsinki, Dublin, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, and has completed five tours of the USA.

The recipe for Pasadena’s longevity relies on staying true to the original sounds that were produced nightly by the resident bands in some of the first-class hotels pre-war in the jazz clubs of New York and beyond.
