THE MAYOR and mayoress of Evesham hosted a gathering of fellow dignitaries from neighbouring towns and districts on Sunday (June 2) to mark the beginning of the new civic year.
The ‘Pleased to Meet You’ evening hosted by Evesham’s mayor and mayoress – Coun Robert Raphael and Coun Marion Griffiths – took place at Hampton Ferry on the banks of the River Avon.
Civic leaders from across Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire exchanged pleasantries and got to know one another in an informal and relaxed setting.
“We all want the best for our communities and we quite often encounter the same issues. It was a great way to share ideas, problems and successes and discuss how other councils conduct their affairs,” said mayor, Coun Raphael.
A total of £155 was also raised for the mayor of Evesham’s charity appeal which supports Wallace House Community Centre, Evesham Adventure Playground and Ourside Youth Centre.
