Evesham Editorial 17th Feb, 2020 Updated: 18th Feb, 2020   0

FLOOD warnings across Evesham and Pershore have been lifted after river levels on the Avon dropped in the past 24 hours.

While the Avon in Pershore remains as high as 4.15metres at 10am this morning (Tuesday), in Evesham river has dropped below 2.5metres, meaning no flood warnings are needed for the local area.

However, a flood warning remains for the Avon at Wyre Piddle and with further rain forecast tomorrow (Wednesday) environment chiefs are monitoring river levels closely.

Waterside in Evesham is now fully open as is Pershore Bridge.

Roads closed due to flooding:

* Besford Bridge, Pershore

* Brook Lane, Cropthorne from the Jubilee Bridge

* Stratford Road, Honeybourne

* Farm Lane, South Littleton

* Eckington Bridge

* Eckington Road from the New Barn Road and New Road junction.

Chief Supt Tom Harding from West Mercia Police, on behalf of the multi-agency flood response, said: “We continue to experience flooding as a result of storm Dennis across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire – with major incidents being declared in all three counties on Sunday (February 16).

“Please do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Many roads are closed and impassable so please respect any road closures and diversions as they are in place to keep you safe. Please do not venture close to swollen rivers or floodwater and follow flood advice.

“Information regarding the flooding including road closures, will continue to be given on social media by the Environment Agency, local authorities and the emergency services, and via local news or radio channels.”
