A MAJOR £4million investment is being made by Worcestershire County Council into the footways it is responsible over the next three years.
As part of the 2022/23 budget – unveiled last week at County Hall – the authority said it wanted to make Worcestershire’s footpaths as good as they possibly can be.
The £4million is on top of the usual amounts earmarked for footway improvements and will enable 108 more miles to be addressed.
Coun Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “The investment pledged in this year’s budget to improve the county’s footways is at the highest level ever.
“This funding is not just for one year but for three, guaranteed. It will enable the county council to continue the work of maintaining our current footways and adding additional capacity, improving accessibility in all parts of the county.
“We’re aware that well-maintained and new footw
ays are important to our residents’ and this budget shows our commitment to ensuring our footpaths are ready for everyone to use.”
Increased investment has also been allocated for the county’s highways, with an additional £6million-a-year, for three years, to improve and maintain the county’s roads.
