CLASSIC cars are set to roar through the countryside this weekend on a charity Lavender Run on Drive It Day.
The event, organised by Redditch and District Car Club, is a scenic classic car tour through the heart of England for Drive It Day on Sunday, April 26 in aid of a children’s charity.
Drive It Day is organised by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) and helps to raise money for the NSPCC’s free counselling and support service for children and young people, Childline.
The FBHVC has this year agreed to support Childline with Drive It Day for another five years.
For the event, car owners are encouraged to purchase special plates for their vehicles, with money from the sales going towards helping Childline.
Starting at Stratford Garden Centre, the untimed 126-mile tour runs through the scenic counties of Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and the Cotswolds.
The route includes enjoyable stop-offs at the Halford Bridge Inn in Shipston-on-Stour for tea, Pillerton Priors for a buffet lunch, and then Broadway Tower.
Finally returning to the garden centre for a well-earned two-course meal.
Roger Taylor, clerk of the course, said: “Drive It Day has become a firmly established date in the calendar for classic car enthusiasts.
“When it came to selecting a date to revive the Lavender Run, it was an obvious choice. We’re also proud that the club will be supporting the important work of the NSPCC by raising funds through this event.”
FBHVC chairman David Whale said: “The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, organisers of the annual Drive It Day event, is proud of its association with the NSPCC.
“To date the event has raised over £250,000 in support of Childline. FBHVC applauds the generosity of the historic vehicle community and the unwavering support of FBHVC member clubs and their thousands of enthusiastic members across the UK.”
Jane Horsley, NSPCC supporter relationship fundraiser, said: “We are delighted that the FBHVC has agreed to support Childline for another five years with their Drive It Day event.
“It is always a fantastic sight to see the many wonderful vehicles being displayed at events across the country and giving people a chance to see some wonderful cars up close.
“Every penny raised from these events supports the NSPCC’s Childline service which gives children and young people a chance to seek support and help if they have any worries, no matter how big or small.”
