Evesham residents invited to learn about major changes to local government

EVESHAM residents are being invited to attend a public drop-in event to learn about significant changes to local government affecting the town and wider Worcestershire area.

Organised by Evesham Town Council, the event on Saturday, April 18 from 9am to 3pm at Evesham Town Hall aims to explain current plans to abolish both Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon District Council, replacing them with a single new unitary authority.

The session gives people the opportunity to understand what the proposed changes mean for local services, ask questions and share their views.

Importantly it gives the community a chance to contribute to discussions about the future of the town, particularly with regard to what services residents feel the town council should take on and run locally.

The creation of a new unitary authority represents one of the biggest shake-ups of local councils in over fifty years, and community input will play an important role in shaping how services will be delivered in the future.

Councillor John Clatworthy, the mayor of Evesham said: “We encourage all residents to come along, find out more about what’s happening, and have their say.

“These changes will affect everyone in our community.”

No appointment or booking is required, residents can attend at any time during the event hours.
