WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has backed a £1million fund which helps to improve community meeting spaces.
Supermarket chain Asda is donating grants worth up to £20,000 to enhance community facilities in a bid to tackle loneliness and social exclusion.
Eligible organisations can use the grants to fund projects like general repairs, improving access and expanding capacity.
The MP has called on community groups to take full advantage of the scheme.
The Asda Foundation Local Community Spaces Fund runs between April 14 and 28 April.
It is advised that community groups should get their applications in as soon as possible as the scheme may close early in the case of high demand.
Dame Harriett said: “Our village halls, community centres, Women’s Institutes and social clubs make a huge difference to many local lives, so I am very pleased that Asda are helping to bolster their vital work.
“Any local community group that is seeking to upgrade its facilities or embark on a new project should look at accessing the fund.
“Organisations that support the vulnerable, isolated and deprived are especially encouraged to apply.
“With the cost of everything going up, it’s essential that local groups can continue to operate these fantastic sites where people can go to get support or just see a friendly face.”
