NATWEST has confirmed the closure date for its Evesham branch.
A letter to customers and staff today (April 8) said the bank which is located in the Grade I Listed Round House building in Bridge Street, will close on August 25.
By the time it closes the bank will have completed the substantial refurbishment project that has been ongoing since 2022.
The schedule of works has included repairs to its external historic timber facade, reroofing, new drainage and minor internal repairs.
NatWest has previously pledged to hand over the building to the community after the original closure was announced in June last year.
The communication, seen by the Observer stated: “We continue to explore future uses of the building following the restoration, and we welcome conversations with local community organisations and charities.
“We thank the community for bearing with us whilst we have completed these extensive works.”
The Round House was built 568 years ago during the reign of Henry VI in the late Middle Ages.
It has been classified as a building of ‘exceptional interest’ by Historic England.
To help existing customers the bank had pledged to open a ‘community pop up’ which will be located in a nearby community venue and will operate for up to 12 weeks.
A local banking colleague will be available to support customers with face-to-face conversations about their banking needs and to help them with setting up and using digital services.
While the ‘pop up’ will be a cashless service, the bank says that customers will be supported with information on how to access cash services through the local Post Office.
As is typical with the large number of bank branch closures across the UK in recent years, NatWest cited major changes in banking habits, with more and more customers banking online, as reason for the closure.
Further information about the ‘community pop up’ will be available in branch in the coming weeks and online at https://www.natwest.com/bankingnearme#community
