LEWIS Middleton’s late goal earned Evesham United their first win of the New Year with a 1-0 victory against Weymouth.
Substitute Middleton scored the game’s only goal six minutes from time at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
The result means Evesham sit 13th in the Southern League Premier South table.
Evesham thought they had taken the lead after just seven minutes when Ethan Dunbar found the net only for the assistant referee to flag for offside.
The teams traded chances thereafter as Robins goalkeeper Alex Harris held Tom Bearwish’s shot while Josh Barlow fired wide at the other end.
And Kai Churchley then saw his powerful drive cleared off the line by the visitors before sending a follow-up volley wide of the target.
Bearwish spurned another chance for Weymouth before the break when he dragged a shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.
And the Robins almost broke the deadlock before half time when Amer Awadh shot wide following a goalmouth scramble at a corner.
Weymouth’s Andy Robinson shot straight at Harris early in the second period before Ioan Richards produced a last-ditch tackle with a visiting player through on goal.
However, the Robins eventually took the lead on 84 minutes when Andre Wright flicked on Harris’s long kick which released Middleton who raced clear and finished into the bottom right corner.
The visitors had one final chance to draw level late on as Brandon Goodship failed to hit the target from five-yards out.
Evesham are next in action against Farnham Town on Saturday, January 17 with kick-off at 3pm at the Memorial Ground.
