Wassail returns to historic Fleece Inn this weekend

Lise Evans 9th Jan, 2026   0

THE FLEECE Inn at Bretforton will be welcoming hundreds of revellers to its hallowed surrounds this weekend for the annual wassail.

This ancient ceremony to bless the apple orchard  returns on Saturday (January 10) when the courtyard will come alive with music, dancing and fire.

From 5pm, displays of Morris dancing from a number of sides from across the district entertain young and old with their rhythmic stepping and handkerchief waving.

At 7pm a druid will lead the revellers in a procession to the apple orchard when songs will be sung and pieces of toast are hung on its branches for the robins, and cider is poured around the base of the largest tree as an offering to Mother Nature.

The evening finishes off with an impromptu folk music session in the barn. Warm clothes and sturdy footwear are advised as this is an outdoor event.
