County to launch new SEND project to make support easier to get

THE COUNTY’S Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS), is launching a new community programme designed to make support easier to reach for families in Wychavon.

The impartial service delivered jointly on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council, provides free, confidential information, advice and support to families of children and young people aged 0 to 25 with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

Although funded by both councils, the service operates independently to ensure families receive neutral and trustworthy guidance.

The new scheme will see the service visiting communities across the region to bring SEND advice, guidance and training directly into local venues, helping families discover the breadth of support available where they live.

Wychavon District Council is the first area to receive SENDIASS Connects with activity taking place from January to March 2026.

Developed in partnership with Wychavon, the programme responds to the needs of parent carers who may have limited access to SEND information or find it difficult to travel to central locations.

Chris Boxall, SENDIASS Herefordshire and Worcestershire operational manager, said: “The scheme is designed to shine a spotlight on the support that is available within the communities where families live.

“By taking our advice and training into local venues, we hope to make it easier for parent carers and young people to reach out, ask questions and feel confident navigating SEND processes.

“It’s really important local families get to understand what support is available to them in their community and we hope that Wychavon becomes just the first stop on a wider, countywide tour for our service.”

Families will be able to attend free training workshops, specialist advice drop-in sessions and youth drop-ins for young people with SEND.

The SENDIASS CONNECTS Wychavon programme will offer a rolling timetable of advice drop-in sessions, youth drop-ins and training workshops, including EHCP Training, guide to SEND and transitions sessions.
