'I applaud community spirit' - Christmas message from Nigel Huddleston MP

Lise Evans 23rd Dec, 2025   0

As we approach Christmas, I want to send my warmest wishes to everyone across Droitwich, Evesham and our villages.

Christmas is a time to come together with loved ones and reflect on the year gone by, and 2025 has certainly been a memorable year.

We have enjoyed some real highlights, from the fantastic return of Worcester Warriors to professional rugby, to hugely successful local events such as the Battle of Evesham Festival.

Once again, this occasion brought history to life in spectacular fashion, drawing visitors from far and wide and showcasing the very best of our town’s heritage, creativity and community spirit.

One of the pleasures of my role as an MP is that I get to meet many inspirational people and groups who spend time volunteering and helping those in need in our local community.

The work they do to support the lonely, disabled and disadvantaged deserves our particular thanks.

We should never take their generosity for granted, and I applaud their community spirit.

Supporting our local economy and business community has also been a focus for me throughout the year, especially as some of the sectors that are so important locally have been particularly hard hit recently – from farmers to the hospitality sector.

I always enjoy the engagement I have with local entrepreneurs and employers, whether that be visiting their premises or attending one of my regular series of business breakfasts.

I will continue to use my position in Parliament to raise their concerns, as well as those of all my constituents.

Another highlight of the year is visiting schools across the constituency and also meeting groups of students in Parliament.

You never know what questions they are going to ask, and I am always impressed by how knowledgeable and insightful the questions and comments of even very young pupils are.

Another special moment this year was welcoming the Polish Consul General to Evesham.

The event, organised by Phil Maclean and the Evesham Place Board, was a true celebration of local pride and unity.

This year also saw the launch of my first-ever Constituency Pub of the Year competition, celebrating the pubs that sit at the heart of our towns and villages.

I was delighted to present the award alongside Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer & Pub Association, to The Bridge Inn and Ferry in Offenham, a fantastic and deserving winner.

As we look ahead to Christmas and the New Year, I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone working over the festive season, our Armed Forces, emergency services, NHS staff, carers, and those in hospitality and retail who keep our communities running.

Whatever your plans, I hope you enjoy a peaceful, joyful and restorative Christmas with family and friends.
