PERSHORE Town exited the Worcestershire Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage following a heavy 6-0 defeat at defending champions Worcester City.
In a repeat of the 2021/22 final, the Plums proved no match for a side who play two levels higher than them.
Both Liam Lockett and Izak Reid scored braces while Felix Miles and Josh Bailey also found the net for the home side at Sixways Stadium.
Worcester play two levels above Pershore who ply their trade in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
And City made a quick start when Lockett’s cross from the right rebounded into the path of Miles who slotted home from eight-yards out with just 11 minutes on the clock.
The home side struck again five minutes later as Lockett slipped the ball past the Pershore goalkeeper after racing in-behind the Plums defence.
Worcester all but sealed their place in the last four on 28 minutes when Reid smashed home Lockett’s low ball across the face of goal from close range.
And City extended their lead on 35 minutes as Bailey applied the final touch to a long throw which was flicked on at the near post.
The home side remained in control after the break as Lockett grabbed his second of the game on 71 minutes when he found the bottom corner with a first time effort after good work from Zac Guinan down the right.
And City completed the scoring eight minutes later when Reid headed in from close range to score his second goal after Charlie Wise rose highest to nod Bailey’s cross into the scorer’s path.
Pershore are next in action against Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Saturday, December 6 with kick-off at 3pm at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.
