THIS STUNNING poppy cascade adorns St Michael”s Church in Broadway ahead of Remembrance Sunday and Armisitce Day.
The church put out a plea for people to knit and donate poppies in January and more than 5,000 were amassed.

The church has thanked everyone who contributed to the display and said it was truly grateful to the congregation, Sew U Knit Crafts and Broadway Crafters, the village and those beyond.
These included poppies posted from Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Wales and some holidaying in the area from America who also joined in.

”We ask for poppies to be at least 4-inch diameter so they didn’t fall through the net and maximum 12-inch.
“Having larger poppies means there is less stitching on.
“We asked for poppies to be made preferably in acrylic yarn.
“This means that the cascade can dry out quicker when it gets wet and will be less heavy than with wool or cotton yarn. “

The church took advice from Wellesbourne Parish Church and said it was grateful for all the help and advice received.
Ian Michaels and Adrian helped put it onto the tower.

The netting was at the back of church we asked for help sewing the poppies onto the netting. It took over 350 hours to sew 5,000 poppies onto the netting.

On November 1, local schools St Mary’s RC Primary School and Broadway First School, along with Sarah Beasley, worked on a display inside the church to remember the animals to were also part of the World Wars.

Both schools will also take part in the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Broadway on at 10.50am on November 11.

Remembrance concert
The church is open from 10am to 4pm and there is a Remembrance-themed concert at 7pm on November 15 with Alcester Male Voice Choir.
All proceeds go to the church and the British Legion.
