West Worcestershire MP calls for local views on ‘eye watering’ County Council tax hike

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has urged local people to share their views as county councillors consider ‘massive’ council tax hikes.

The Reform-led Worcestershire County Council has published a plan which could increase council tax by as much as ten per cent.

The council has already scaled back its ambition by slashing road and transport spending and cancelling a new secondary school in Worcester, and now it is looking at a significant tax raid to prop up its administration.

Dame Harriett said: “Reform councillors were elected in May and already they are looking to put up taxes whilst pausing investment on major infrastructure projects.

“Previous Conservative administrations kept council taxes under control and annual increases within national guidelines, but so soon into a new council spending period, the leadership is proposing eye-watering increases which will hit local people deep in their pockets.

“The council has opened up a consultation to seek local people’s views and I urge as many people as possible to say that it needs to think again and take a ten per cent increase off the table.”
