A SMALL grants scheme has launched to offer funding for projects aimed at improving road safety across the UK

The Road Safety Trust launched its Autumn 2025 Small Grants programme on Tuesday (September 23).

Grants ranging from £10,000 to £50,000 are available to support practical research projects and interventions that could make a real difference in reducing accidents and saving lives.

For the first time, the Trust has introduced a new two-stage application process. This approach will provide early feedback to applicants and guidance for those invited to submit full proposals, making the application process more accessible.

The programme opened on Tuesday for initial ‘Expressions of Interest’, allowing applicants to outline their proposed projects or interventions. The deadline for these submissions is Wednesday, October 29.

Applicants will be notified by mid-November if they are invited to the full application stage, with full proposals due by December 12. The Trust aims to announce successful applicants by early February 2026.

This round of the Small Grants Programme is an ‘open round’, meaning bids can address a wide variety of road safety issues, from research and education to practical interventions.

Louise Palomino, Grants and Impact Director at the Road Safety Trust, said:

“We are pleased to be relaunching our Small Grants Programme with a new two-stage process aimed at making applying for our funding more accessible. We look forward to receiving high-quality applications with the aim of reducing harm on UK streets and roads.”

Applications are open to UK-based organisations only, including public sector bodies, professional associations, registered charities, and university departments.

Guidance and application materials are now available on the Road Safety Trust’s website. Visit https://www.roadsafetytrust.org.uk/our-grants for more information.
