A BY-ELECTION to fill the place of a Wychavon vacancy following the resignation of its former deputy leader Aaron Powell from his Bretforton and Offenham seat.
Councillor Powell lost his Conservative county council Littletons seat at last year’s local elections to Hannah Robson for the Greens.
He is swapping politics for a new job with the West Midlands Combined Authority as director of digital and data transformation.
When asked if he was quitting politics for good he told the Observer “I wouldn’t call it ‘quitting politics’. My role at the West Midlands Combined Authority is a politically restricted post which means that I am unable to serve as a councillor or publicly support any political party.”
The by-election on Thursday, October 9 will see seven candidates on the ballot.
These are Amanda Capewell (Labour), Marino Cretu (Greens), Joe Davin, (independent), Matt Jones, (Liberal Democrats), Rob Robinson, (independent), Mary Smith, (Local Conservatives) and Matthew Winfield, (Reform UK).
