CHESS enthusiasts in the Vale are being sought to start up a new over-the-board club in Evesham.
The club is for anyone in the district who enjoys chess, whether a novice or experienced player.
The Worcestershire Chess Association is keen to see more clubs in the area and are supporting the formation of a new group.
Organisers are looking for people to volunteer to get the club up and running, recommend potential venues and aficionados to attend club nights.

“Chess is for everyone, from complete beginners to seasoned players. If we can bring people together for a friendly weekly club in the heart of Evesham, that’s a win for the whole community,” said Paul Serafini, a member of Worcestershire Chess Association.
“A few of us have spent time in town reviewing possible venues and nothing is set in stone yet, but we had a lovely time chatting to people and scoping out spaces.
“We’re writing a report on the venues to send out to possible members.”
There are already several clubs affiliated with the association across the county including Droitwich, Worcester and Malvern.
Former English Women’s Chess Champion, Kate Toma from Birmingham recently became the first woman to win the Worcestershire Chess Championships, beating defending champion Joe Friar in a tie break on August 24.
The 39-year-old grandmaster from Birmingham said she first got into the game in her native Poland, where there is a ‘much higher’ number of girls who play.
Ms Toma has said she hopes her success will inspire more girls to get into the game.
Anyone wishing to get involved should email Paul via [email protected] for more information.
