A SHEEP has been killed by a dog in Cleeve Prior.
Police are investigating the distressing incident of dog worrying that occurred yesterday Monday (August 18) which is believed to have involved a young collie-type dog.
They are asking local residents if they recognise the culprit which is mostly black other than white paws and chest and a white tip on its tail.
A spokesperson from the force said: “Dog owners are reminded to keep their pets under control near livestock. Even well-trained dogs can exhibit unpredictable behaviour around sheep and cows.”
The force is urging walkers to keep dogs on a lead near farmland in order to prevent them from straying onto agricultural land.
Livestock worrying, where dogs chase or attack farm animals is a criminal offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953.
It causes serious harm to animals, emotional distress, and financial loss to farmers.
