PAL Fitness Education has been selected as a finalist in the Active Campaign category for the BBC Hereford & Worcester Make a Difference Awards.
The Worcestershire-based social enterprise supports SEND families and people living with disabilities across Evesham and Pershore.
These awards are a regional campaign to celebrate unsung heroes and groups that have gone above and beyond to make a positive change in their communities.
The Active Award, specifically, recognises an individual or group who has used physical activity or sport to improve the lives of others in their community.
This recognition celebrates PAL Fitness Education’s unwavering commitment to making cycling and other physical activities accessible to everyone.
A cornerstone of their work is the Cycle with PALs programme which offers a variety of sessions including adapted cycling.
These sessions are held every Wednesday & Saturday from 12pm to 2pm at the Evesham Velo Park.
It is open to all ages, abilities and provides adapted bikes, wheelchair access, trikes and side-by-side bikes, for those who cannot ride a two-wheeled bike.
This ensures that everyone, including those from local day care centres, families, and carers, can experience the joys and health benefits of being active outdoors.
“We are incredibly honoured to be named a finalist for this award,” said Kirsty Shoots, PALs SEN Co-ordinator.
“Our goal has always been to break down barriers and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy cycling and the fresh air.
“This recognition from BBC Hereford & Worcester is a wonderful validation of our team’s hard work and the positive impact we are having on our community.”
Also shortlisted for a Make a Difference award is Evesham’s Sophie Hedley-Goggin in the Young Hero category, Ourside Youth Centre, Evesham for Community Group and Angela Gray from Bretforton is in the running to be named Great Neighbour.
The winners of all categories will be announced at the annual awards ceremony on Thursday, September 25 at West Midlands Safari Park.
