EVESHAM United came from behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw against Basingstoke Town in the club’s first home game of the season.

The Robins drew level on 66 minutes when Andre Wright found the net after Robbie Gallagher’s early goal put the visitors ahead at the Spiers and Hatwell Stadium.

And the result means Evesham sit fifth in the Southern League Premier South table.

Basingstoke broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Gallagher pounced on some hesitation in the Evesham defence to finish from close range.

However, the Robins grew into the game and drew level after the break as Wright fired home via the underside of the crossbar after Will Owens’ cross cross deflected kindly into his path.

The visitors introduced former Premier League striker Charlie Austin from the bench for the final 20 minutes but the Robins held firm to claim a point.

Evesham are next in action against Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday, August 16 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hatwell Stadium.
