DROITWICH and Evesham MP Nigel Huddleston is to take over as shadow culture secretary following a frontbench reshuffle by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.
His promotion which was announced on Tuesday (July 22) will see him step down from being co-chairman of the party, a post he has held since November 2024.
Mr Huddleston was formerly appointed as a minister in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) with responsibility for tourism and heritage, gambling and lotteries and sport in 2020.
He said on social media that he was “delighted” to take over as shadow culture secretary and would leave the chairman’s role with “amazing memories”.
“I am passionate about all DCMS sectors and am honoured to have been asked by Kemi to take on this new challenge,” he posted.
He was first elected as an MP in 2015 and sat on the DCMS select committee, a cross-party committee of MPs whose job it is to hold the department to account and conduct hearings into important and urgent matters of interest.
Prior to becoming an MP, he worked for Google as the industry head for travel and before that he worked as a consultant at Deloitte in the UK and US covering travel and tourism, technology, media and telecommunications.
