All aboard for annual Fladbury Walkabout this weekend

SCENIC boat trips along the River Avon, a sustainable flower festival and more than 20 village gardens to explore are just three of the attractions at this weekend’s Fladbury Walkabout.

What started out as a humble flower festival in 1970 has morphed over the years into a village-wide event with a fun dog show, display of classic cars, art exhibition, bell tower tours and live music on the green.

Classes for the dog show which starts at 11.30am, includes best child handler, most obedient pooch and the waggiest tail with registrations at 11am.

Meanwhile on Sunday (July 6) a 3km fun run for athletes of all ages starts at 2pm in aid of Fladbury First School PFTA. There is also a fully supervised climbing wall for the visitors who might wish to conquer their fear of heights.

A safer option might be the bell tower tours of Fladbury Church from 12 noon where members of the Fladbury and Cropthorne bellringing band will be on hand to answer any questions.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to our friendly village this weekend. Whatever your age there is something for everyone.

“As a voluntary organisation, we hope to raise plenty of funds for our local good causes,” said organiser Mark Blackwell.

The event runs 11am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday (July 5 and 6)

Tickets cost adults £7.50 for the day or £10 (weekend), under 15s go free. Parking is free (WR10 2QA next to Fladbury Mill) and a shuttle bus will transport visitors up to the village.
