VISITORS to Evesham’s historic Almonry Museum got a chance to step back in time to the 1940s with a garden party on Saturday.

The nostalgic event saw nearly one hundred people who brought picnics to enjoy and tried their hand at traditional garden games such as quoits and croquet.

Alex Bear, learning and education officer said: “It was a huge success. We managed to dodge the rain and had quite the turn out throughout the day.

“We were joined by some visitors who went all out getting into the 1940s mood by dressing up and enjoying the music.

“Our vinyl player, playing the dulcet tunes of the ’40s bridged a generational gap, with many of our younger museum visitors never having seen or heard one actually playing before.

He added that several vehicles from the Military Vehicle Trust based at Ashdown Farm joined the party for the day.

“We had three World War Two Willys Jeeps in the garden which looked fantastic.

“It really felt like a good cross section of the Evesham community came out to celebrate and discover our history.”
