AN ACT of Remembrance in Broadway last week (Thursday, May 8) marked 80 years since the Second World War ended in Europe.
Representatives from the Royal British Legion, parish council, police and schools joined the commemorations at the war memorial on the village green.
The service, led by Rev Shellie Ward from St Michael’s Church, included readings from St Mary’s R C Primary School and Broadway First School pupils.
Later, the community enjoyed a traditional tea in Lifford Hall before bell ringers from St Eadburgha’s Church joined a nationwide peal to Ring Out in Celebration – just as bells would have rang on May 8, 1945.
The celebrations ended with a beacon lighting at Broadway Tower.
