REVIEW - Local and European fine dining at Evesham’s Karma Salford Hall

Evesham Editorial 15th May, 2025 Updated: 15th May, 2025   0

WE ALL need a break away from everyday stress, so when we were given the chance to stay at Karma’s award-winning Salford Hall, we jumped at the chance.

The venue stood out for all the right reasons – from gorgeous views to impeccable food, it was exactly what we needed.

There is only one thing to look for when going for a weekend away, and that’s luxury. Once we arrived at Evesham’s finest historically rich Salford Hall, luxury is exactly what we found.

Upon entering we were greeted by Zeke, Salford’s head of reception, who was full of energy and ready to help with our bags.

The staff are full of knowledge about the 700+ year old grounds which once housed the infamous Henry VIII and his many wives, with walls adorning portraits of those who lived there previously.

The reception area is often filled with other guests enjoying a drink and their furry companions who have just walked the many trails surrounding the area.

We were shown to one of the 27 rooms on the grounds for guests of the Karma Club, room 25,

The Henry VIII room. A beautifully decorated, spacious room which suited the theme, including a four-poster bed, bathroom upstairs, and a mini fridge filled with alcoholic and non-alcoholic

refreshments. The amenities are a wonderful way to begin your stay, from the tennis pitch to the well-equipped gym (and according to my partner, athlete approved) you have everything you could need.

In the main building the library is stocked with books from autobiographies to pieces about the area, along with a chess board and seating area.

Upstairs you will also find an arcade room with a fully sized and stocked pool table, for a friendly game or two.

But the best part was yet to come…

One thing you have to have when going away is good food, and Karma’s restaurant did not disappoint.

Our waitress Caitlyn recommended the Karma’s own distilled gin, paired with fresh slices of orange and lemon.

It was the perfect recommendation, smooth and without that known bitter gin taste, exactly what was needed to start the night.

The staff were very well co-ordinated, resulting in a seamless dining experience. After debating the wide variety of the menu, from vegetarian options to the Indian menu, we decided on the

feta tortellini and the chicken 65.

The tortellini was a taste of home, in a rich creamy sauce, and the chicken 65 was a taste of India indeed. Although it has 65 spices, it was not overpowering and very tasty.

We also got the bread plate to share, which has a good variety of different homemade breads and accompaniments like balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Next to arrive was our mains, we decided on the 28-day dry aged ‘Aubrey Allen’ sirloin steak and the herb crumbed cod with crispy potato.

We also got a side of fries, fat chips and steamed vegetables, because who can go out for dinner and not get a side or two.

The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-well, seasoned well with salt and pepper, and paired well with the crispy fat chips.

The cod was delicate with the consommé and the crispy potato was an excellent addition texturally and partnered well with the steamed vegetables. We paired the mains with Karma’s own sweet rose wine, which was refreshing and fruity.

Finally, we had our desserts. We decided on the chocolate and hazelnut mille-feuille and the glazed lemon tart to finish off our award-winning meal, and we did pick well.

The millefeuille was not too sweet with a rich and creamy vanilla ice cream, and the tart was sweet and refreshing with a raspberry sorbet that stole the show.

With our meals finished and our glasses empty we headed back to our rooms for a much-needed rest in our Henry VIII suite.

The Karma Salford Hall proved why they were named the winner of the Best Luxury Hotel Restaurant 2025 – Warwickshire, from the outstanding service to a dining experience you are not going to forget, it has everything you could need for a relaxing weekend away.

If you have not yet been, I do highly recommend it and do make sure to book in for a massage at their spa, your back will thank me later.
