EVESHAM United secured promotion to Step Three for the first time in 13 years after beating local rivals Malvern Town 1-0 in the Southern League Division One South play-off final.
The game’s only goal came on 63 minutes as Levi Steele’s deflected header looped into the net at a packed Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
Evesham held on in the remaining minutes to secure promotion with Mike Ford’s side to play at Step Three for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign next season.
And the play-off final took place in front of a club-record 2,949 spectators – blitzing the club’s previous best attendance.
Evesham achieved promotion via the play-offs at the fifth attempt after previously losing at the semi-final stage on four occasions.
And next season will be just the club’s sixth campaign in their history at Step Three.
It will also be the first time the club have played at Step Three since moving into their new stadium at the start of the 2012/13 season.
Evesham earned home advantage in the play-off final by virtue of finishing higher in the league table than Malvern.
However, Malvern came into the clash on a 19-game unbeaten run and beat Evesham home and away in the regular season.
Chances were at a premium in the first half as Evesham goalkeeper Alex Harris and Malvern stopper Ryan Smallwood both made crucial saves with their feet.
And Harris made a fine reaction save low down to his left to keep out Joe Bullock’s header after the break following a long throw from the right.
However, Evesham broke the deadlock on 63 minutes when Will Owens delivered a cross from the left and Steele’s deflected header from eight-yards out looped over the backtracking Smallwood.
The visitors sent a barrage of long balls and long throws into the Evesham penalty area as they desperately searched for an equaliser.
However, the referee eventually blew for full time as Evesham held on to clinch promotion and deny their rivals a place at Step Three next season.
