GOLF - Vale Golf Club host number of tournaments for senior golfers

THE Vale Golf Club seniors’ section have enjoyed a busy start to the season following a wet winter and loss of several golfing days.

A number of senior individual trophy competitions took place over the last month.

In the Bill Kelly Cup, 72 members contested the stableford format in three divisions as John Eastoe came out on top.

Eastoe topped the Division Two standings on 39 points with Brian Bunn second on 38 points and Will Reading third on 37 points.

In Division One, Phil Davis (37), Rob Sharp (36) and Ian Macrae (36) all scored well.

While in Division Three, Rob Brownsdon (37), Geoff Wilson (37) and Graham Whitehead (35) made up the top three.




The next events to take place, the Kirkpatrick and Winnie Cups, saw 65 players compete for the trophies.

Larry Taylor win the stableford competition to claim the Kirkpatrick Cup with 44 points.


And Macrae shot an 84 to win the Winnie Cup with the trophy going to the golfer with the lowest gross score.

Martin Foley was nearest to the pin on the fifth hole.

Following that, the John McKeown Salver saw 57 players compete in a net stroke play competition played in three divisions.

And Bunn won the competition with a net score of 70 as he finished three shots ahead of Mark Haywood and four in front on Mick Lewis in Division Two.

In Division One, Brian Brumhead and Mike Malone (both 71) and Rob Sharp (73) came closest to glory.

While in Division Three, Chris Filus, John Carr and Carlo Martinelli all finished on net scores of 74 with the latter also nearest to the pin on the fifth hole.
